What is the difference between a laser displacement sensor and a laser distance sensor?

Feb 20, 2020

Different measuring principles

1. The operating principle of the laser ranging sensor: First, the laser pulse is emitted by the alignment policy, and then the laser is scattered in all directions after being reflected by the policy. Part of the reflection will return to the sensor, and then receive the image and then reach the avalanche photodiode. A diode is an optical sensor with extended functions. Therefore, he can feel a weak light signal, record and process the time elapsed from the time when the light pulse is sent to the time he is accepted. This can determine the policy distance.

2. The operating principle of the laser displacement sensor: The probe emits a laser beam, and diffuse reflection occurs on the surface of the measured object. The reflected beam can reach the receiving device of the probe. The probe calculates the displacement by calculating the angle of the reflected laser beam. Therefore, this type of laser displacement sensor is also called a triangular reflection sensor, and its accuracy can reach nanometer level. Laser triangulation is suitable for high-precision, short-distance measurement. In current industrial robot applications, triangulation is usually used. This method has a maximum linearity of 1um and a resolution of 0.1um.

Different application areas

1.Laser displacement sensors are mainly used for measuring geometrical quantities such as displacement, flatness, thickness, vibration, distance, and diameter of detected objects.

2. Laser ranging sensors are mainly used in: vehicle flow monitoring, vehicle pedestrian illegal monitoring, laser ranging and obstacle avoidance in emerging areas such as drones, unmanned vans, and autonomous driving.
