What is the difference between laser and ordinary light

1.Different colors
Laser is the light with the simplest color. The sunlight and electric lights seem to be white, but when you pass it through a prism, you can see seven colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, cyan, and purple. Invisible infrared and ultraviolet light. The color of the laser is very simple, and it only emits light in one direction, and the brightness is extremely high.
2. Different brightness
The laser has the highest brightness. The sun is a natural light source shared by mankind, and the entire world is bathed in bright sunlight. The surface of the sun is 300,000 times brighter than candles and hundreds of times brighter than incandescent lamps. The output of an ordinary laser is 1 billion times brighter than the brightness of the sun's surface. It is not a problem to reflect from the earth to the moon and reflect back. Visible laser is a high-brightness light source in the world today.
3. Different directionality
The directivity of the laser is good. The light energy is highly concentrated in the space of the emission direction, so the brightness of the laser light is ten times or even billion times higher than that of ordinary light. Moreover, because the laser can be controlled, the light energy is not only highly concentrated in space, but also highly concentrated in time, so it can generate a huge amount of light and heat in an instant and become a powerful beam that is indestructible.
In normal times, the lights we see are glowing in all directions, just like when the cinema is gone, everyone walks forward and backwards in different directions. Turn on the lights in the room and the whole room is illuminated. For another example, when the flashlight is turned on, the diameter of the emitted part is only 3 to 5 cm. After shooting a few meters away, it will expand into a large aperture. This shows that light diverges during transmission. Lasers, however, are different. It is the emission of a large number of atoms due to stimulated radiation. The laser always spreads like a thin straight line with a very small divergence angle. A laser beam hits the moon 380,000 kilometers away. The diameter of the aperture is only about 2 kilometers at best.
4. Different energy
The laser can also have a lot of energy, and it can be used to easily mark on the steel plate, or cut or hollow out. In industrial production, laser drilling, cutting and welding have been successfully performed using the high brightness of the laser.
Medically, the high energy of the laser can be used to detach the retina to coagulate and perform surgery. In terms of surveying and mapping, it can measure the distance between the earth and the moon and satellite geodesy. In the military field, laser energy can be increased to make light weapons that destroy enemy aircraft and missiles. And ordinary light energy is very scattered.
