What is the difference between a laser displacement sensor and a laser ranging sensor?

Dec 16, 2019

(1). Principle of laser displacement sensor

The probe emits a laser beam, and diffuse reflection occurs on the surface of the measured object. The reflected beam of light can reach the receiving device of the probe. The probe calculates the displacement by calculating the angle of the reflected laser beam. Therefore, this type of laser displacement sensor has It is called a triangular reflection sensor, and its accuracy can reach nanometer level. Laser triangulation is suitable for high-precision, short-distance measurement. In current industrial robot applications, triangulation is usually used. The resolution can reach the level of 0.1um. .

The laser transmitter sends a visible red laser light to the surface of the object through the lens. The reflected laser light passes through the receiver lens and is accepted by the internal CCD linear camera. Depending on the distance, the CCD linear camera can "see" this at different angles light spot. Based on this angle, the distance between the laser and the camera, the digital signal processor can calculate the distance between the sensor and the measured object.

(2). Principle of laser ranging sensor

The laser rangefinder emits a very thin laser beam to the target when it is working. The photoelectric beam receives the laser beam reflected by the target. The timer measures the time from launch to reception of the laser beam and calculates the distance from the observer to the target. Products It is characterized by a wide measurement range and fast response speed; no reflector is required for long-distance measurement; high measurement accuracy and large range; safety laser is not harmful to human eyes; small size and easy installation and debugging; support single measurement and continuous measurement.

Difference between laser displacement sensor and laser ranging sensor:

1: Different measuring principles

The laser displacement sensor uses the principle of laser triangulation; the laser distance sensor uses the time of flight of the laser to calculate the time it takes for the laser to reflect on the surface of the measured object to calculate the distance.

2:Different application fields

The laser displacement sensor is mainly used for measuring geometrical quantities such as displacement, flatness, thickness, vibration, distance, and diameter of the detected object.

Laser ranging sensors are mainly used in: vehicle flow monitoring, vehicle pedestrian illegal monitoring, laser ranging and obstacle avoidance in emerging areas such as drones, unmanned vans, and autonomous driving.
